Retro Football Unblocked — Play Free Online

Pixel Football

A Scratch fan project titled retro bowl, made by adove15 and unrelated to New Star Games: pick pro clubs, call runs or passes, aim throws by mouse.

Retro Football unblocked: play Retro Football online free right here in your browser — no download, no sign-up, works on a school Chromebook.

A fan-made football game built in Scratch

Retro Football is the name this site uses for a Scratch project called "retro bowl", shared on the Scratch website by the user adove15 in December 2021. Despite the title, this is a hobby build and not New Star Games' Retro Bowl; the studio had no part in it. adove15 built it on top of someone else's earlier Scratch upload and has updated it since; according to the change log, version 1.2 brought in high schools and custom fields.

Because it is a Scratch project, it runs inside the Scratch player: the green flag starts it and everything is drawn with Scratch sprites, including a scoreboard, down markers and small player sprites.

Controls

The author's own instructions on the project page are short:

  • WASD runs your player around the field.
  • Space starts the play.
  • Click to pass, aiming with the mouse.

On the team screen, the arrow keys cycle through home teams and A and D cycle through away teams. Defense is computer-run for now, the author says, while either offense can be human-controlled, so a pair of players on one keyboard and mouse can each run a side's offense in turn.

What is in the project

  • Teams: every club of the American pro league is in, alphabetically from the Arizona Cardinals to Washington, and the scoreboard switches to the chosen side's colours.
  • Plays: three on-screen buttons let you call a handoff, a toss or a pass ahead of each snap.
  • Routes: on passing plays the receivers run named routes such as slant, fly and post, and aim and target markers appear while the ball is in play.
  • Rules: down, distance, quarter and clock are all tracked, and there are kickoffs, turnovers, safeties and touchdowns, just as in a real game.
  • Defense: the computer players on defense drop into zone coverage.

Tips

  • Pick a pass play when you need a lot of yards, and the handoff or toss when only a short gain is needed for a first down.
  • Look at the route markers before you snap the ball with Space, so you already know where each receiver is heading.
  • Throw a little ahead of a running receiver with the mouse rather than straight at him.
  • Protect the ball near your own goal line: being tackled in your own end zone gives the other side a safety.

As a fan project, Retro Football can change whenever its author updates it on Scratch, so features may come and go between visits.

Questions about Retro Football

Is Retro Football unblocked at school?

Retro Football runs in an ordinary browser tab from basketballlegends.org, with nothing to download or install, so it plays on most school Chromebooks and work computers. If a network filter blocks the site, only that network's administrator can change it.

Is Retro Football the official Retro Bowl?

No. It is a fan-made Scratch project titled retro bowl, shared by the Scratch user adove15, and it is not connected to New Star Games.

What are the controls in Retro Football?

W, A, S and D move your player, Space starts the play, and you click to pass while aiming with the mouse.

Can two people play Retro Football?

Both offenses can be controlled, so two people can take turns on one keyboard and mouse. Defense is run by the computer for now.

What kinds of plays are there?

Three buttons appear before the snap: run it with a handoff or a toss, or throw it with a pass, where receivers follow slant, fly and post routes.
